Piano Tuning

It is recommended that your home piano is tuned once every six months in order to keep it stable and in the best possible playing condition.

If it has been a long time since your piano was last tuned or serviced, don’t fret! It is usually possible to revive pianos that have gone many years without attention.

Pianos in certain settings such as colleges, universities, concert venues etc. will usually require more frequent services in order to maintain a dependable playing standard.

Voicing

Voicing is the shaping of the tone of your piano.  If your piano sounds too dull, too bright or is inconsistent in timbre across the breadth of the keyboard, then a voicing adjustment can be made.

This can involve many different techniques to adjust the density, hardness and tension of the felt of the piano hammers, as well as adjusting the position of strings.

Your piano must be fine tuned prior to voicing.

Regulating

Regulating your piano involves making adjustments to the action and keyboard to allow it to perform efficiently and respond sensitively to your playing. Notes misfiring, hammers blocking against strings or ‘bobbling’ are all symptoms of regulating faults.

A well maintained and regulated piano will provide a more satisfying and productive playing experience to anyone from beginners to the most experienced and skilled pianists.

Corrective regulating can be performed on your piano in-situ. Often a full regulation will form part of a complete action reconditioning. In this case, your piano action can be taken to the workshop before being returned for final adjustments.
